Cut to the stands around the football field at Cleveland HS. There are very few people stand in the stands on the visitor’s side, but they make up for it in noise. The teacher stands with a coach’s wife and her students’ parents. It’s the Friday going into Thanksgiving break and her face is much more relaxed than it has been in any of the past episodes.
The teams are tied up and she’s screaming alongside the moms, jumping up and down on rickety stands. The teacher: OH MY GOD RUN, RUN, RUN, WATCH OUT, NOW RUN!!!! Parent: (laughing)You really are like that little girl in Remember the Titans. The teacher smiles, used to this comparison. At first it was a little degrading to be compared to a little girl, but now she understands that the parents mean well. A new play starts and she yells again, this time at the referee. The teacher: ARE YOU BLIND TO PASS INTERFERENCE? The half ends and she begins talking to the parents. The teacher: You know, Kyla has really made a lot of progress in her writing. It’s pretty awesome. She is working so hard and I am so proud of her. She pops an attitude every once in a while but never with me. It’s always with the kids who won’t shut up. She makes me laugh, little boss that she is. Her mom smiles. Parent: Thanks for telling me. Yeah, she knows I don’t put up for that nonsense so neither does she. |
